On The Street

Sunny days, sweeping the clouds away.  On my way to where to air is sweet.  Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?

It's been several years since my last trip to the street, but now that we have revisited, I've been looking "under the asphalt" and have made a few observations that must have slipped through the cracks when I was six.

After all this time, these little furry friends are still teaching me stuff.  Best. Show. Ever.

Oscar The Grouch: Wouldn't it be nice if sometimes we could just shout out our pessimistic remarks to whomever is walking by, and then dramatically slam the trash can lid down and go back to that game of solitaire?

Big Bird: It's a good thing you're over 8 feet tall, eccentric fella, cause all your questioning and not being able to connect-the-dots fast enough would have made you the pick of the bully litter.  Stop being so nice to everyone!

Bert and Ernie: Brothers or best friends?  I'm not sure, but they never seem to have school to get to, a bedtime, or any type of caregiver.  Livin' the life, I guess.  Ernie--that airy laugh.  It's very snarky.  And Bert, you should really get that OCD treated.

Prairie Dawn: Just another example that anyone can make it in show biz if they really stick to it. Never you mind what Randy Jackson says.  Belt it out, baby!

Grover: Scrawny little noodle-armed pal, you are a such a hero and the bravest guy I know.  I think you should try out for Survivor, cause, buddy, you got this.

Elmo: Seriously, if this cute little guy can't make you laugh, you might consider Prozac.  (La la la la, La la la la Elmo's World...Elmo likes his goldfish, his crayon too.  That's Elmo's world.)  Probably the shortest, simplest introduction song ever written.  And it will never EVER get out of my head.

Snuffleupagus: Even big, hairy, wide, "imaginary" creatures need best friends too.

Cookie Monster: Keep scarfing 'em down, my man.  Binge eating is not always bad for you.

The Count: The original vampire and obsessed with counting, this guy rocks a toupee and has bats as live home decor.  Harry Potter took lessons from this guy.  Also may be considered "Emo" by today's standards and require regular visits with a social worker.

Slimey The Worm: Sometimes, you just want to slink by, unnoticed.

The Twiddlebugs: Are they the Duggars?

In a colorful world with multiple personalities, do these characters not serve as reminders that we can all coexist peacefully?

And a shout out to Mr. Hooper.  I'll always remember you.

  2. I agree. Still so good (fun post!). But WHY did they have to change the version of the song? Bums me out every time.
