Survey Says!

I have this reel in the back of my mind that is constantly rolling.  It asks crazy quiz questions, has colorful wheels spinning, features contestants jumping up and down flailing their arms, and is narrated by balding hosts in bad suits.

Why, you ask?

Perhaps it's the hours of pure joy it brought my siblings and me when we couldn't always have that new and better toy and were forced encouraged to use our imaginations.  Maybe it's all the babysitting I did in my adolescent years.  I was always trying to come up with new ways of entertaining my subjects so that we didn't just end up watching tv.

[My cousins Heather and Jenny can attest, we had some pretty crazy games, including my unique version of American Gladiators using a homemade balance beam (thank you, Uncle Gary!) and some Rockem Sockem Boppers.  We even got the pets in on it.]

It only continued as my teaching years ensued, as I would have to come up with ways to stimulate and challenge* (and control) a room full of kids high on Fruit Loops and low on sleep.
*We played Magic Trash-I'd spot one specific piece of garbage that was on the floor and then at the word GO! kids would scramble, pick up ALL the trash, and try and be the one who found the "magic" piece, earning bragging rights and an old piece of candy.  That game could go on for a long time, hehe...

What it probably comes down to is that I am just a game show host at heart.  That must be why I always wanted to emulate the excitement brought on from a "Come On Dowwwwwwn!" or a "No Whammies, no Whammies, STOP!" or an "I'd Like To Solve The Puzzle!!!"

My family members will tell you that I watched waaaaaay too much Family Feud for the first 6 months of Jackie's life.  It was always on, multiple channels even, and I didn't care if it was from 1977 or present day (Steve Harvey is HILARIOUS).

I also watched the ones I'd seen before.  I told you, I'm a junkie.  Jackie knew when it was time for Fast Money because I'd start ignoring him teaching him how to play by himself for that 5 minutes.

I am prepared (by that I mean I've made some of my own questions) so in case I ever got asked to host the show, here's what MY survey would have to say.

IT'S TIME TO PLAY...FAST MONEY!

20 SECONDS ARE ON THE CLOCK!

WE ASKED ONE HUNDRED PEOPLE...

  • Other than toothpaste, jello, and pureed squash, name something you've gone to bed with stuck in your hair.
  • Besides your fist, name something you want to throw at Barney the Dinosaur.
  • Not counting the ones ending in "y," name the day you feel the most energetic.
  • Other than the laundry room, the stove-top area, or the diaper aisle at Target, name a place where you might be considered a "regular."
  • Besides packing your suitcase, driving to the airport, and flying away to someplace tropical where they have a beverage served in a pineapple with your name on it, name something you may consider doing real soon.
